A Workshop Built on Care & Precision
Every timepiece tells a story. Our work is to keep those stories running smoothly for years to come.
Return HomeOur Story
Pivot & Grain began in 2018 when Lee Wei Ming set up a small workbench in Seremban, driven by a simple observation: many local watch owners struggled to find someone who would take the time to properly understand their timepiece's specific needs. Too often, watches were treated as standardized items rather than individual mechanisms with their own quirks and history.
The workshop's name reflects two essential elements of mechanical watch construction — the pivot points where friction must be minimized, and the grain structure of metal components that determines their strength and longevity. Both require attention to detail and an understanding that small elements matter in the larger assembly.
Today, we operate from a dedicated workshop on Jalan Dato' Bandar Tunggal, equipped with the tools and reference materials needed to service a range of mechanical movements. Our approach remains unchanged: take the time to understand what each watch needs, explain the work clearly, and perform that work with care. We don't rush through services or make promises we can't keep.
Whether you're bringing in a daily-wear automatic that's lost its power reserve, an inherited pocket watch that hasn't run in decades, or a dive watch that needs its seals verified before a trip to the coast, the process is the same. We assess the watch honestly, discuss what needs to be done, and give you a realistic timeframe and cost before any work begins.

Quality Standards
Proper Equipment
Our workshop maintains professional-grade tools including movement holders, pivot burnishers, pressure testing chambers, and timing machines calibrated regularly.
Technical References
We maintain an extensive library of technical manuals, parts catalogs, and movement diagrams to ensure accurate servicing procedures.
Secure Handling
Watches are stored in a locked cabinet when not being worked on. Each piece is logged with detailed condition notes and owner information.
Realistic Timeframes
We provide honest estimates for service duration. Quality work takes time, and we won't rush a service to meet an unrealistic deadline.
Clear Documentation
Every service includes written documentation of work performed, parts replaced, and testing results. You receive a complete record.
Owner Consultation
If we discover additional issues during service, we contact you before proceeding. No surprise charges or unauthorized work.
Our Commitment
Mechanical watch repair requires both technical knowledge and practical experience. We approach each service with the understanding that someone trusted us with an item they value — whether for sentimental reasons, daily function, or both.
Our workshop focuses on doing the work properly rather than quickly. We source quality replacement parts when needed, follow manufacturer specifications where available, and adapt our techniques for older movements that require different approaches. The goal is always to return your watch in reliable working condition.
We're transparent about what we can and cannot do. If a repair requires specialized equipment or expertise we don't have, we'll let you know rather than attempt work that might compromise your timepiece. Your watch's condition matters more than completing every service request that comes through the door.
